Since 2004, Suzanne Groom (Chris’ Mom) has taken on the Richmond Marathon each November, all to support “TEAM CHRIS” and the Chris Groom Memorial Fund. Dressed in Chris’ orange Tennessee cap and her own “TEAM CHRIS” shirt, she runs the 26.2-mile race as a powerful tribute. Along the route, friends and family join her, donning orange hats and shirts, creating an unforgettable sea of orange in the midst of the marathon.
But why a marathon? Why run year after year? For Suzanne, it’s more than a physical challenge; it’s a way to cope with the pain of losing her son and to keep his memory alive. Running has become her therapy, a means of strength, and a testament to the enduring love for Chris. With each step, Suzanne not only confronts her grief but also honors her son and supports the Chris Groom Memorial Fund.

Every year, our Target shopping spree is a heartwarming event where we unite with over 50 friends and family members to achieve something remarkable. Our goal? To make the holiday season brighter for children in need by filling a U-Haul to its absolute limits.
At Target, we embark on a mission to select an array of gifts, including toys, bikes, scooters, books, and more. These carefully chosen donations go beyond being just presents; they bring joy, hope, and warmth to the hearts of children and their families.
Our journey doesn’t end at the store’s checkout counter. We proudly deliver this abundance of gifts to the Bayleaf Fire Department in Raleigh, where they become part of the Toys-For-Tots program. From there, these gifts find their way into the homes and hearts of hundreds of families in our community.
